Tax residency in Zimbabwe
An individual is regarded as resident in Zimbabwe for a year of assessment if they are ordinarily resident in Zimbabwe during that year, based on factual circumstances indicating where they normally live and habitually return (including intention to reside, the existence of a settled home, and personal, social, and economic ties), with temporary absences not by themselves displacing ordinary residence; alternatively, an individual is resident if physically present in Zimbabwe for more than 183 days in aggregate during the year of assessment. An individual who is neither ordinarily resident nor present in Zimbabwe for more than 183 days in the year is a non-resident. Where dual residence arises under domestic rules, an applicable double taxation agreement may determine residence using tie‑breaker criteria such as permanent home, centre of vital interests, habitual abode, nationality, and, if necessary, mutual agreement by the competent authorities.
